English post : A bookish trip to England!

Hi! As you may know, I’m currently on vacation! I realised it’s the last holidays before summer vacation which makes me feel pretty nostalgic even though I can’t wait for summer. The second week of holidays started a few days ago and on the first week I went to England with my parents, my sister, my grandmother, my cousin and my aunt (yes, it’s A LOT of people 😉 ). I have really enjoyed this trip because it’s been a long time since I went there with my family. I was so excited!!

As you already know, friends of mine live in England, including Zoë, who has a wonderful book-blog (Click here to access it). I had a great time there but I feel like it went by really fast…

I visited lots of places as National Trusts, which are big houses you can visit easily all around the country, they’re all different and there are beautiful gardens. In one of them, there was a huge Japanese garden, I loved it! I also went in different coffee shops and bookstores.

In my last post (Click here if you haven’t read it yet), I talked to you about my new books. Well, I bought them all during the trip. When I got back to my house I decided to organise my bookshelves because they were not tidy. My sister helped me and now it is beautiful!

Here are some books I got and that I really want to read (I included a summary in each of them) :

  1. A Cornish Escape by Jenny Kane :

Abi’s life is turned upside down when she is widowed before her thirtieth birthday. Determined to find something positive in the upheaval, Abi decides to make a fresh start somewhere new. With fond childhood memories of holidays in a Cornish cottage, could Cornwall be the place to start over? With all her belongings in the boot of her car but no real plan, a chance meeting in a village pub brings new friends Beth and Max into her life. Max soon helps Abi track down the house of her dreams but things aren’t as simple as Abi hoped.

This book seems to be so good! It makes me feel so relaxed…

2. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson :

The case is closed. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it.

But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the murder, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final year project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth?

This book was a gift. I had alreay heard about it so I’m glad I can read it now!

3. Perfectly Preventable Deaths by Deirdre Sullivan :

Everyone in Ballyfran has a secret, and that is what binds them together…

Fifteen-year-old twins Madeline and Catlin move to a new life in Ballyfran, a strange isolated town, a place where, for the last sixty years, teenage girls have gone missing in the surrounding mountains.

As distance grows between the twins – as Catlin falls in love, and Madeline begins to understand her own nascent witchcraft – Madeline discovers that Ballyfrann is a place full of predators. Not only foxes, owls and crows, but also supernatural beings who for many generations have congregated here to escape persecution. When Catlin falls into the gravest danger of all, Madeline must ask herself who she really is, and who she wants to be – or rather, who she might have to become to save her sister.

This book caught my attention, it is really dark and scary but I don’t often read books of that type. It will make me discover something else!

This post is over! It’s been a long time since I wrote a post about books but everytime I wite them, I am really happy. Thank you for taking the time to read, let me know if you want more posts about literature!

English Post : Jane Austen and a school trip to England!

Hi! Today I’m going to talk to you about a famous author and my school trip to England!

Jane Austen is a famous British author who was born in the 18th century. I read one of her books in Literature class and I really enjoyed it! Jane Austen wrote lots of books like Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility. I read Northanger Abbey in class, it was really interesting.

Northanger Abbey :

« No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her born to be an heroine. »

The protagonist of the story is Catherine Morland, a young lady who lives in a little village : Fullerton. When she was a child, Catherine was a very boyish girl, a tomboy.

One day, her neighbours (Mr. and Mrs. Allen) ask her if she wants to accompany them in Bath, a city in England. She accepts and is really enthusiastic. She meets Mr. Tilney, a handsome and wealthy man. He asks her if she wants to go to his house to discover the city : Northanger Abbey. She discovers mysteries, people, I do not want to spoil!

I really recommend this book, it is mysterious, and the author is wonderful!

My school trip to England :

I went to a school trip to England in November. It was wonderful!! I went to England with my class and my sister’s class. There were five teachers to accompany us : my literature teacher, two history and geography teachers, a French teacher and another literature teacher who retired a few years ago.

We went to Bath (Like in Northanger Abbey!), Stratford-Upon-Avon (Shakespeare’s birthplace), Gloucester, Windsor and Oxford. My favorite place was definitely Stratford-Upon-Avon, it is a really cute village. We wstayed with British families near Gloucester and mine was great! This school trip was incredible and I hope I will be able to take part in another one soon!

We visited Jane Austen’s museum, it was really interesting, we even had the chance to wear costumes of the 18th century! We also visited Shakespeare’s museum, I liked it a lot too.

Have you read Northanger Abbey?

Do you like Jane Austen’s books?

Have you already gone on a school trip?

English post!

Hi! Today I decided to write an english post about 3 incredible series I’ve watched on Netflix! I love series because there is a lot of suspense between all the episodes and it is longer so you can enjoy the series for a long time, which is not the case of movies. There are a lot of series you can watch on Netflix, and there is always something you can discover or rediscover.

Series #3 :

Riverdale : This series was really good because there was a lot of suspense (even too much sometimes…) and there were many episodes, so you could take the time to discover all the characters.

But I stopped watching it because it was too scary for me, so I wasn’t really happy to watch it and there were new episodes each week which was a bit discouraging after a moment.

It is talking about a little city in the US, there are crimes, mysteries, love stories. I recommend it to people who like scary and mysterious series, but not for people like me who don’t like being scared or who are easily stressed.

Series #2 :

Outer Banks : I’ve already talked about this series in an old post (you can (re)discover it if you wish!), it was a great discover for me and I really recommand it!

It’s about four teenagers who are searching a treasure, it is really interesting and very famous on Netflix, which is pretty obvious because it was DAZZLING.

I recommand it for people who like friendship stories and suspense, adventure…

Seris #1 :

Virgin River : I have been watching this series with my family during vacation and I really loved it!!

It is about a woman : Mel, who moves to a little town called Virgin River. There are love stories, mysteries…I am only at the season 2/4 but I was positively surprised about the series and I can’t stop watching the episodes!! I recommand it for people who like love stories and clichéd american series.

This article is over! I will probably talk to you about my « back to school » because it is ALREADY tomorrow… For example, I’ll give some ideas to organize your notebooks shelf, give some esthetic tips for cover pages and maybe other things.

Enjoy your last moments of vacation, and see you soon for a new article on my blog!

English Post!

Hello! Today I’m going to tell you about a wonderful book that I am reading : The Midnight Library.

This book was written by Matt Haig. It is full of suspense and sad at the same time, which is a good mix for a book.

It talks about Nora, a young woman who lives by herself, but has a cat : Voltaire. She is sad, she has no one to talk to, she is depressed. The day her cat dies, she feels miserable, so she decides to kill herself. But she appeares in a strange library, where she has the opportunity to live other lives in which events could have happened to her if she had made different choices.

This book changed my point of view about life in general, but also about choices we can make and that can destroy or realise our dreams. It is really a psychological book, a bit philosophic. I think that the author thought that life was important, and wanted to transmit this to everyone who was reading his book.

What I liked in the book : The philosophical aspect, the writing of Matt Haig.

What I would have changed : The story begins to fast, we can’t really recognize Nora’s character.

My review :

This article is over ! I hope you will try to read this book (it also exists in french) or other books by Matt Haig! Enjoy your vacation and see you soon for a new article.

You have read the book and you want to give me your opinion?

You have read other books of Matt Haig?

English Post!

Hello! Today I am going to talk to you about a rare subject that appears in my blog : The series. I’ve already talked about this in one post, but it was a long time ago…

This post is about Outer Banks, a very famous series on Netflix. I am only at the 6th episode of the season 1, so it is going to be less detailed than the other posts…

Anyways, this series is about a group of friends, John B, Kiara, JJ and Pope who are looking for a treasure since the father of John B disappeared mysteriously. There are two groups in their island : The Pogues and the Kooks. The Pogues are poor and are considered as no one. The Kooks are very rich and don’t care about the Pogues, most of them are cruel.

THE CHARACTERS :

John B : John B is the protagonist of this series. He is adventurous, and really wants to discover what happened to his dad. he could do anything for his friends.

Kiara : Kiara is the only girl of the group. She is a Kook but prefers hanging out with the Pogues, because she thinks that the Kooks are manipulating everyone.

JJ : JJ has a very difficult life : His dad is alcoholic and is beating him… He could do, like John B, anything for his friends. He is the entire opposite of Pope. He is my favorite character because he always stays happy even if his life is very hard, and he does not feel comfortable at home which is very sad and shocking.

Pope : Pope is the brain of the group and wants a scolarship to a prestigious school so he tries to be as serious as possible even if it is hard to be serious when you are a part of his group of friends ! He is in love with Kiara secretly but she doesn’t love him, which make him sad.

It is a very mysterious series, I am not watching this kind of series usually, but it was a good surprise ! Everything that happens is important so I can’t really tell you what it is exactly about so you can watch a trailer or even start the series !

Thank you and see you soon for a new article on my blog ! 🙂

English post !

Hi! Today I’m going to talk to you about a book that I’m reading in English class : Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. People can think that it is just a children’s book, but it is really not!

This book was written by Lewis Carroll, an author who lived in the Victorian era (In the 19th century). At that time, the majority of the people considered children as animals, or insignificant humans. Adolescence didn’t exist for them. Young people were children until they got married…

People also thought that God created them, until the theory of Charles Darwin: Humans come from apes. This theory shocked everyone, and Lewis Carroll decided to write a book about this and adolescence.

I’ve finished my “History Point”, so let’s talk about the story:

I think everyone knows the story of Alice: Alice is listening to the boring book read to her by her sister, then she sees a white rabbit running and going into a whole. She decides to follow him, and she appears in Wonderland: a world full of strange and crazy creatures like the Caterpillar, or a weird cat who can disappear…

This story is really good, every single creature is bad to Alice, they don’t really care about her, just like adults at the time of the author. This kind of acts were totally normal to adults at the Victorian era, which is not for our generations.

I think that this book is interesting and personally I didn’t realize that it was dealing with all of those things… if you haven’t read it yet, you should, because you can change your point of view about this book or movie if you’ve watched it.

In the book, Alice is eating and drinking lots of different things, which makes her growing up or shrinking, which means that she is growing up, that her body is changing, as if she was becoming a teenager or a pre-teenager.

This article is over, I hope you are going to read it and change your point of view about this book.

Thank you so much for your support, it is really important for me.
